Startup Canada announced the top winners of the 2024 Startup Global Pitch Competition Grand Finale, held on October 30, 2024, in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. The competition celebrated Canada’s most promising early-stage entrepreneurs aiming to expand into global markets.
Dr. Mallory Flynn, Co-Founder of Insporos, won first place and $30,000, recognized for developing an AI-powered seed-sorting system that enhances greenhouse efficiency and reduces waste. Azadeh Dastmalchi, CEO of VitalTracer Ltd., earned second place with $15,000 for her wearable health device that continuously monitors vital signs to reduce cardiovascular risks. Athanasios (Thanos) Kritharis, CEO of FIBR.BIO, secured third place with $7,500, showcasing an eco-friendly alternative to spandex made from biowaste. Finally, Helen Yin, Founder of Inoki Bathhouse Inc., received the People’s Choice Award and $2,500 for her line of natural, spa-grade tea bath products.
“These entrepreneurs reflect the innovation, passion, and resilience that define Canada’s startup ecosystem,” said Isabel Nolan, Director of Programs at Startup Canada. “Their ideas are not only transforming industries but also enhancing our global competitiveness.”
Presented in partnership with UPS and Export Development Canada (EDC), the 2024 Startup Global Pitch Competition forms part of Startup Canada’s flagship Startup Global program, which helps early-stage ventures scale internationally through export readiness resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities
